• Details:  What an absolutely beautiful vintage plate!!  There is a floral bouquet of mixed flowers in the center, with a light green verge, outlined in gold.  But in our opinion, the best part is the intricate gold filigree design all around the border, it is amazingly detailed and beautiful.  We are unsure if this is part of a dinnerware set by Arabia of Finland, we couldn't find any other pieces, but it makes a wonderful decorative wall plate. The backstamp reads:  "Arabia Suomi Finlandia, 26, Made in Finland".  This mark was used from 1932 to 1949.  There is an embossed mark:  " 32 Arabia S11", we believe this is the year made, and the pattern number. Arabia of Finland was started in 1874, when the owners of a Swedish porcelain factory named Rörstrand, wanted to enter the Russian market and built a factory in Arabia, Finland where tariffs were lower.  By 1893 they had started a modernization process and hiring new artists.  In 1900 the company entered the World Exhibition in Paris and received a gold medal for some of the pieces created by artist Thure Öberg.  During WWI the last remaining owners from Rörstrand sold their shares in Arabia, which became an independent Finnish company. In 1932, Arabia hired a ceramist who opened their own art department.  By 1939, with all the modernization, the new artists, ceramists and new designs, Arabia had grown into Europe's largest porcelain factory.  In a twist of fate, the 1980's saw the old Rorstrand company taken over by Arabia's parent company Wärtsillä.  In 1990 the company was acquired by Hackman and was incorporated into the Hackman trademark. In 2016 the Arabia factory in Finland closed.  Today the production has been moved abroad to Thailand and Romania, and the trademark is owned by Fiskars.
